Thomas Spencer

1700 - 1756

Thomas Spencer was renowned for his elegant and lively horse paintings, as well as miniature portraits. He worked on a series of horse portraits with James Seymour between 1740 and 1746, and might have been a pupil of Seymour's prior to this. The artists' styles were similar, but Spencer tended to use a softer palette. His work is represented in the Tate Collection.
