Edward Benjamin Herberte
Edward. B. Herberte
Edward Benjamin Herberte was an English sporting and animal painter from the last half of the 19th century. He mostly painted fox hunting scenes but for special commissions he painted horse fairs and horse racing subjects. This is one such example, a classic English horse fair where people from all over the local area would have gathered in an almost carnival atmosphere to trade horses and enjoy all things related to horses.
This piece must have more than 100 figures in its composition and is of the finest quality. It is the rarest subject by the artist and is a super rare piece in terms of its subject.
The painting is in excellent condition and is an oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889.
