Edwin Masters

Edwin Masters was a painter of farmyard scenes who exhibited at Suffolk Street (including a work entitled "Sunset on Woking Common").

Little is known about his life, but he painted naive farmyard and village scenes. His work is sometimes attributed to William Shayer, who painted similar subjects and also the works of Georgina Lara, with whom his work has a very striking resemblance.

Masters' work can often be recognised because of his tendency to put large numbers of small figures into his canvases. Masters painted prolifically in a delightfully personal style.

His charming compositions and warm colouring contribute to the artist's popularity with art collectors world-wide.
