"E'en Sober Dobbin lifts his clumsy heel, and kicks, disdainful of the dirty wheel

Edward Algernon Stuart Douglas referred to as E.A.S. Douglas was born in 1850. He lived and worked in Barnes, England, near London. Douglas was a painter and printer of mainly hunting scenes and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1880 and 1892. Most of his work was on a small scale and this example is very large for him to have painted.

The painting has been recently re-framed in new hand-made English gold frames of the finest quality.

The piece is signed on the front and signed and inscribed on the reverse.

"E'en Sober Dobbin lifts his clumsy heel, and kicks, disdainful of the dirty wheel, quote from The Farmers Boy, Robert Bloomfield.
