Antique English 19th century man with horse in landscape on pathway with friend

REF: 2433

David Hardy was an English genre painter who exhibited from 1855 -1870 in various English galleries such as the British Institute, the Suffolk Street Gallery, and one example at the Royal Academy in London.

All his paintings seem to have a similar theme, figures going about their day or work. His observation on how the figures interact with the animals and the landscape scape makes his paintings very appealing.

The fine brushwork in the trees is first class.

The painting is painted on an artist's millboard and it is signed lower left.

It is framed in an antique English Victorian-style gold leaf frame.
