Frank Paton 1855-1909

Frank Paton was probably best known for the series of prints published by Leggat brothers. These were small prints with wide borders containing amusing sketches and were unique to Leggatts. He was however a fine painter of animals, particularly know for his horse portraiture he did however paint some lovely pictures of domestic animals. He exhibited at the RA for some years until he fell out with the organisers. He died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of only fifty three. He was described as a kind and friendly man with a great fund of humour. After his death Leggatts donated a full set of his prints to the British Museum.
