English Landscape with Farmhouse

REF: 2373

Sally Gaywood was born in Chester and from a very early age showed a natural aptitude for painting.

She trained to be a dancer, but her dream was always to be an artist. She became a pupil of the late Robert Goodwin, the marine and portrait painter, and studied with him in his Chelsea studio.

She has over the years been working as a professional artist following in the tradition of the great English landscape painters. Her work is particularly noted for the feeling of light and atmosphere which she portrays in her paintings and most especially for her studies of skies and clouds. At one of Sally's exhibitions a meteorologist said, Sally's paintings were the first he had seen by a living artist that was absolutely accurate meteorologically!

She has had a number of "one-man" exhibitions in London, including the House of Commons and abroad. Her paintings can be found in private collections all over the world.

Over the years she has undertaken a number of important commissions including 6 views of the Royal farms at Windsor. These are now part of HM the Queen's Royal Collection. She has worked for the British Army on an aspect of the Gulf war for R.E.M.E. Two paintings for the British Horse Society and a panoramic view of London with St. Paul's Cathedral for the C.E.G.B.

In recent years she moved from Hampshire to an isolated Devon Farmhouse where her work developed a more mystical interpretation, very often inspired by a great piece of music, the interior of a cathedral or a spectacular view of Dartmoor.
