Painter
John Syer was a landscape painter, and the father of James S (q.v.).
Syer studied with J. Fisher, a miniaturist in Bristol and exhibited his works at the Royal Academy 1846 - 75, British Institute, Suffolk Street, New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery and elsewhere.
Syer painted landscapes and coastal scenes with figures, often in Devon and Wales.
Works by the artist are in Art Galleries in Bristol, Leeds, Leicester and Sheffield.
